Please try each step one at a time until you resolve your issue.

- On your Mac, disconnect and reconnect by going to Apple menu > System Preferences > Sidecar (you can also open Spotlight and type sidecar and search it). Now click Disconnect. Wait a few seconds and try reconnecting it.
- Try moving your iPad closer to Mac and try again.
- If you are using a VPN service either on your Mac or iPad, try disabling it and then try again.

Nothing worked except the last suggestion. Resetting the network settings worked.
Thanks a lot!
It worked on step 7.
Yeah!!!
Oh my god, never mind! it’s working now! I have no idea what happened but I’m not questioning it!
My iPad doesn’t show up on the Sidecar list, but I know they’re compatible because I was able to do it yesterday. For some reason it now isn’t working. Yesterday was the first time I had ever done it. I had held down on the green fullscreen button and the option to open Sidecar on my iPad showed up. Now, when I do that, It doesn’t show up. I have googled every imaginable rephrasing of ‘Sidecar isn’t working’, and nothing that has come up has helped. I have no idea why. I’ve made sure Two-Factor Authentication is on, they’re connected to the same WiFi, they’re connected via wires and Bluetooth at the same time, I’ve restarted my iPad and computer, I’ve made sure Handoff is on. I can’t remember all the things I’ve done. I can’t imagine finding anything else to do, but if you can help, please do. 🙁
I am seeing “Unable to Connect to “X’s iPad. The iCloud account does not use two-factor authentication.” However, when I go to the Apple ID under passwords, there is no option to turn on two-factor authentication. How am I supposed to turn it on?
You can’t open the “Sidecar” preferences pane because it is not available to you at this time.
I am using the MacBook Air 2017 model + iPad Pro 2018 11 inch with pencil.
Please fix the error
SideCar is only available on the MB Air models 2018+.
One of the reasons that sidecar may not work is if one is using VPN on their MacBook but not on their iPad, despite being connected to the same WiFi. Disconnecting the VPN worked for me.
FYI – I was searching for help because I couldn’t connect via USB-C to USB-C, only via wifi. Finally realized I had to first open my iPad in finder and select trust iPad. Now Sidecar works for me with a wired connection.
Thanks Jeffrey – this was what I needed to do as well. I appreciate you leaving the comment!
thank you for your explanation but still I have problem with the sidecar. The icon doesn’t show up in my Macbook Air and I can’t connect.
Are you sure is 2018 or later?
Mine either and i am not sure why. Did you ever figure it out?
