You may want to disable higher cellular speeds\u00a0for various reasons. For instance:<\/p>\n<p>1-Using LTE may decrease battery life.<\/p>\n<p>2-Higher cellular speeds may cause data overage as a recent survey found that\u00a0people with 4G LTE phones\u00a0are likely to\u00a0use twice as much data as those with 3G.<\/p>\n<p>Depending on your carrier&#8217;s network (At&amp;t, T-Mobile etc), the cellular settings on your device may differ.<\/p>\n<p>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/how-to-manage-cellular-data-usage-on-your-iphone\/\">how to limit cellular data use<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>VoLTE iPhone: Turn off LTE<\/h2>\n<p>Voice over Long-Term Evolution (VoLTE) allows\u00a0voice calls over a 4G LTE network. If your network supports VoLTE, then: (if you are not sure, <a href=\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-us\/ht204039\">here is how you can check<\/a>)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Tap Settings<\/li>\n<li>Cellular<\/li>\n<li>Cellular Data Options<\/li>\n<li>Then select &#8216;Off&#8217;, this will turn off LTE<\/li>\n<li>There are other settings also. \u00a0This is what they mean:\n<ul>\n<li>If you select Voice &amp; Data, this means calls and data use will be over the LTE or 4G network.<\/li>\n<li>If you select Data Only, this means that data will be over LTE but not voice calls.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/enable-lte.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1094\" src=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/enable-lte-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"turn off LTE\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/enable-lte-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/enable-lte.jpg 645w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>When you attempt to change this settings, you may see this error message: &#8220;&#8221;Cannot Activate LTE Calls. To enable LTE Calls on this account, contact your carrier.\u201d or you may see a message saying to insert a new sim card.
