Users have further said that they receive the following error code when they attempt to set up Auto Unlock on the Mac:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your Mac was unable to communicate with your Apple Watch. Users are also reporting that a &#8220;Turning on&#8221; with a spinning wheel icon is displayed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"566\" src=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/allow-watch-unlock-1-1024x566.png\" alt=\"Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac \" class=\"wp-image-11429\" srcset=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/allow-watch-unlock-1-1024x566.png 1024w, https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/allow-watch-unlock-1-300x166.png 300w, https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/allow-watch-unlock-1-768x425.png 768w, https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/allow-watch-unlock-1.png 1316w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are experiencing this problem, please try the following tips to fix it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please ensure that to use this feature, you need the following things:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Ensure that you have an Apple Watch Series 3 or newer.<\/li><li>Make sure that your Mac is running macOS High Sierra or later. <\/li><li>If you want to use Auto Lock to approve requests for your Mac administrator password, then you need a Mac running macOS Catalina or later and an Apple Watch running watchOS 6 or later.<\/li><li>Both devices signed into the same <a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/what-is-icloud\/\">iCloud<\/a> account (same <a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/how-to-create-an-apple-id-without-an-apple-device-credit-card\/\">Apple ID<\/a>). <\/li><li>Your Watch is using a passcode. <\/li><li>Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled on your Mac.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>See also: <a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/mac-bluetooth-not-working-fix\/\">Mac Bluetooth Not Working? Fix<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please also ensure that your iPhone that was paired with your watch is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Mac. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And lastly, make sure that your iPhone and Apple Watch is <a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/how-to-update-ios-software-on-your-device\/\">updated to the latest version of iOS or watchOS<\/a> (Settings &gt; General &gt; Software Update), and your Mac is <a href=\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/how-to-keep-your-mac-up-to-date\/\">updated to the latest version of macOS<\/a> (System Preferences &gt; Software Update).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Restart <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Please restart your Mac, but please follow the steps below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>On your Mac, go to Apple menu &gt; System Preferences, then click Security &amp; Privacy.<\/li><li>Deselect \u201dUse your Apple Watch to unlock apps and your Mac\u201d or \u201dAllow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac.\u201d<\/li><li>Restart your Mac (Apple menu &gt; Restart).<\/li><li>Now again go to System Preferences, then click Security &amp; Privacy and re-select this option. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Handoff<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It appears that disabling and re-enabling Handoff on the iPhone fixes this problem. Here is how you can do this: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>On your iPhone, go to Settings &gt; General &gt; AirPlay &amp; Handoff and turn off Handoff.  Wait a few seconds. And then go back to Settings &gt; General &gt; AirPlay &amp; Handoff and enable Handoff. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">iCloud<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On your Mac, sign out of iCloud and then sign back in.
