See if a password is saved (correctly) in Keychain<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
If a password is not filling in correctly, you can check if it is saved in Keychain. Sometimes, you may have an incorrect password saved in Keychain. Other times, websites may use more than one login page address, which can cause issues with Keychain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
See your Keychain passwords on iPhone or iPad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n![\"password](\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/view-iphone-passwrods.png\")
<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n- Open Settings<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Tap on Passwords <\/strong>(or for older versions of iOS, Passwords & Accounts<\/strong> or Accounts & Passwords<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- The passwords should unlock with Face or Touch ID. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- You can find the website name by scrolling, tapping a letter on the right or using the search field at the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Tap on the website to view the password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
If you don’t see any passwords, check that you have Keychain turned on for your iPhone or iPad. Open Settings<\/strong> and tap on your Apple ID name <\/strong>at the top. Select iCloud<\/strong>, then Keychain <\/strong>or Passwords & Keychain<\/strong> and toggle the switch next to Sync this iPhone (iPad)<\/strong>.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\nSee your Keychain passwords on Mac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n- Open Safari<\/strong>, then from the top menu bar, select Safari<\/strong> > Settings<\/strong> (or Safari<\/strong> > Preferences<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click on Passwords<\/strong> near the top of the window, then enter your Mac user password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

If the password is incorrect in Keychain<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
If you looked at one of your passwords and it is incorrect in Keychain, you can change it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n- With Passwords open (see above), find and select the website for the incorrect password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select Edit<\/strong> to change the password in Keychain. Now you can edit the Password field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
What to do if Safari isn’t filling in or saving login names and passwords<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Before proceeding, make sure you have the latest iOS<\/a> or macOS<\/a> updates installed. We’ll show you how to check your settings to make sure everything is set up to have Keychain fill in and save passwords or fill in credit card info.<\/p>\n\n\n\nA couple of things to note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n- Safari doesn’t save user names or passwords when Private Browsing is on. You will see that the search\/web address field is dark, and the start page has a Private Browsing message.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Some websites won’t let Safari save or autofill user names and passwords.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
On iPhone or iPad<\/h3>\n\n\n\nFor login names and passwords<\/h4>\n\n\n\n![\"password](\"https:\/\/macreports.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/iphone-password-options.png\")
<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n- For iOS 14 and later<\/em>: Open Settings<\/strong>, then select Passwords<\/strong>. Tap on Password Options<\/strong> and make sure Autofill Passwords<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- For iOS 12, 13<\/em>: Open Settings<\/strong>, then select Passwords & Accounts<\/strong>. Tap on Website & App Passwords<\/strong>, then make sure AutoFill Passwords<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- For iOS 10, 11<\/em>: Open Settings<\/strong>, then select Safari<\/strong>. Tap on AutoFill<\/strong> and make sure AutoFill Passwords<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
For credit card info<\/h4>\n\n\n\n\n- Open Settings<\/strong> and tap on Safari<\/strong>. Select AutoFill<\/strong>, then check that Credit Cards<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
On Mac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n\n- Open Safari<\/strong>, then from the top menu bar, select Safari <\/strong>> Settings<\/strong> (or Preferences<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

- The passwords should unlock with Face or Touch ID. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
- You can find the website name by scrolling, tapping a letter on the right or using the search field at the top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Tap on the website to view the password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
If you don’t see any passwords, check that you have Keychain turned on for your iPhone or iPad. Open Settings<\/strong> and tap on your Apple ID name <\/strong>at the top. Select iCloud<\/strong>, then Keychain <\/strong>or Passwords & Keychain<\/strong> and toggle the switch next to Sync this iPhone (iPad)<\/strong>.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n
See your Keychain passwords on Mac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

- Open Safari<\/strong>, then from the top menu bar, select Safari<\/strong> > Settings<\/strong> (or Safari<\/strong> > Preferences<\/strong>).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Click on Passwords<\/strong> near the top of the window, then enter your Mac user password.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n

- Use the search field or scroll to find the website, then click on it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

- Hover the cursor over the password to unhide it.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
If the password is incorrect in Keychain<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
If you looked at one of your passwords and it is incorrect in Keychain, you can change it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- With Passwords open (see above), find and select the website for the incorrect password.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Select Edit<\/strong> to change the password in Keychain. Now you can edit the Password field.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
What to do if Safari isn’t filling in or saving login names and passwords<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Before proceeding, make sure you have the latest iOS<\/a> or macOS<\/a> updates installed. We’ll show you how to check your settings to make sure everything is set up to have Keychain fill in and save passwords or fill in credit card info.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A couple of things to note:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

- Safari doesn’t save user names or passwords when Private Browsing is on. You will see that the search\/web address field is dark, and the start page has a Private Browsing message.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n
- Some websites won’t let Safari save or autofill user names and passwords.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
On iPhone or iPad<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
For login names and passwords<\/h4>\n\n\n
\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n- \n
- For iOS 14 and later<\/em>: Open Settings<\/strong>, then select Passwords<\/strong>. Tap on Password Options<\/strong> and make sure Autofill Passwords<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- For iOS 12, 13<\/em>: Open Settings<\/strong>, then select Passwords & Accounts<\/strong>. Tap on Website & App Passwords<\/strong>, then make sure AutoFill Passwords<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
- For iOS 10, 11<\/em>: Open Settings<\/strong>, then select Safari<\/strong>. Tap on AutoFill<\/strong> and make sure AutoFill Passwords<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
For credit card info<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

- Open Settings<\/strong> and tap on Safari<\/strong>. Select AutoFill<\/strong>, then check that Credit Cards<\/strong> is on.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n
On Mac<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

- Open Safari<\/strong>, then from the top menu bar, select Safari <\/strong>> Settings<\/strong> (or Preferences<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n

- Click on AutoFill<\/strong>. Look for User names & passwords<\/strong> and Credit cards<\/strong> (if you want to fill credit card info) and make sure they are checked.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n
