Apple Autonomous Car Fleet Grows to 70 Vehicles in California
Apple is continuing to increase its self-driving vehicles. According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, Apple has now 70 cars approved for testing in the State. These car are being controlled by 139 approved drivers.
Our last report was on July 18, and Apple had 66 cars. Apple added another 4 self-driving cars to its fleet. Here is the latest numbers:
- GM Cruise: 175 Vehicles and 467 drivers
- Waymo: 88 Vehicles and 415 drivers
- Apple: 70 Vehicles and 139 drivers
- Tesla: 39 Vehicles and 92 drivers
Apple received permission to test self-driving vehicles on California public roads in 2017. There are currently 57 self driving car permit holders, with 556 approved vehicles operated by 1,917 approved drivers.
We also learned that Apple so far has not applied for a driveless testing permit. Apple’s self-driving fleet consists of 2015/2016/2017 Lexus RX450h SUVs.
Still, there is little known publicly about Apple’s car plans.
