Printer Issues After Sequoia Update: Here’s What’s Happening and How to Fix It
If you’ve recently updated your macOS to Sequoia and are encountering printer-related issues, you’re not alone. Many users are reporting problems with formatting documents for their specific printers, which has caused frustration, especially for those who rely on precise formatting for tasks like booklet printing.
Before the Sequoia update, many users were accustomed to formatting their documents in apps like Word and Pages by selecting their specific printer under the “Format for” option. This ensured that documents were tailored to the settings of their particular printer, making tasks like printing booklets, brochures, or other specialized documents much easier.
However, after the Sequoia update, some users have noticed that this option has disappeared. Instead of seeing their printer listed in the “Format for” menu, only the generic “Any Printer” option appears. This is a significant issue for those who need precise printer settings for complex formatting tasks, leading to misaligned or incorrectly printed documents.
Without the ability to format documents for a specific printer, the precision required for specialized print jobs, such as booklet printing, is lost. Users have reported that previously well-aligned documents are now printing incorrectly, making it difficult to produce professional-quality results. While the printer itself may still be installed and capable of printing basic documents, the lack of access to customized printer settings is causing significant inconvenience.
It seems that this issue is particularly affecting Epson-branded printers. If you are using an Epson printer and are experiencing this problem after the Sequoia update, the fix lies in adjusting your Privacy & Security settings.
Here’s how to resolve the issue:
- Go to System Settings: Open the System Settings on your Mac.
- Navigate to Privacy & Security: In the sidebar, find and click on Privacy & Security.
- Enable Local Network Access for the ‘rastertoescpII’ app: Scroll down to Local Network, and look for an application called ‘rastertoescpII’. Ensure that this app has permission to access your local network by checking the box next to it.
This setting allows your Epson printer to communicate with your system properly, ensuring it appears in the “Format for” list and allowing you to apply the correct print settings for your documents.
Printer issues after a macOS update are not uncommon, and Sequoia seems to have caused compatibility problems, particularly for Epson printers. If you’re experiencing these issues, adjusting your Local Network settings to enable the ‘rastertoescpII’ app should restore your ability to format documents for your specific printer.
