Outlook Will No Longer Work with Mac Mail, Here is What to Do
Microsoft announced that starting September 16, 2024, users of Microsoft personal email accounts, such as Outlook.com, Hotmail.com, and Live.com, must switch to Modern Authentication methods in their email applications. You may have received notifications about this from Microsoft. If you are using Outlook, here is what you should do to ensure your email continues to work.
To resolve this issue, ensure that when setting up an email account in Mail on your Mac, you select Microsoft Exchange for accounts ending in onmicrosoft.com, as well as for those with outlook.com, hotmail.com, or live.com addresses.
Managing Accounts on Mac
Here’s what you can do: delete the Outlook account from Mac Mail, then re-add it as a ‘Microsoft Exchange’ account using your Outlook email and password. Follow these steps:
- On your Mac, go to Mail > Settings, then click Accounts, select your Outlook account, and click Remove.
- Re-add your Outlook account as a Microsoft Exchange account. Go to Mail > Add Account, select Microsoft Exchange, and click Continue. Then, follow the on-screen instructions. Remember to use your Outlook credentials.
You do not need to update the Mail app or the macOS software.
