How to Delete or Deactivate Instagram on iPhone
If you’re ready to be done with Instagram, or you just want a break, you may want to deactivate or delete your Instagram account. You can either deactivate the account temporarily or delete it permanently. In this article, we’ll show you how to deactivate or delete your account through the Instagram app on your iPhone.
You will need your Instagram password (you can use TouchID or FaceID if you have it enabled) if you want to delete or deactivate your account. If you don’t know your username or password, see Instagram’s tips for what to do if you can’t log in.
How to delete your Instagram account
If you follow these steps, your Instagram will be deleted permanently (after 30 days).
- Open the Instagram app on your iPhone.
- Tap on the Account button in the bottom-right corner of your screen.
- Tap on the Menu button (3 lines) near the top-right of the screen, then select Settings.
- Tap on Account.
- Near the bottom, you will see Delete account. Tap on it.
- You’ll see a page asking if you would rather deactivate your account instead of deleting it. Tap Delete account again.
- You’ll see a message stating that you can undo the deletion process by logging into your account within the next 30 days. Tap Continue deleting account to confirm.
- You’ll be taken to the account deletion page. Select your reason for deleting the account from the menu. Then you will see suggestions from Instagram on what else you might do instead of deleting your account.
- Scroll down and enter your Instagram password, then tap Delete [account name].
After you take the steps to delete your account, it will be hidden (deactivated) for the next 30 days. After that, it will be deleted.

This option is available in case you want to get away from Instagram but don’t want to lose your Instagram setup; so you can come back to it later.

- A page will open. You’ll see a question about why you are deactivating your account. Choose an option from the dropdown menu.

How to reactivate your Instagram account
If you have deactivated your Instagram account, you can reactivate it by logging in to Instagram. You should note, however, that if you deactivate, then reactivate, you won’t be able to deactivate again for another week (after deactivating).
