How to Set Your Apple Watch Ahead a Few Minutes
When I was growing up, our clock was set to show a time that was 10 minutes ahead of the actual time. This was done by our parents so that we didn’t miss the bus and made it to school on time. And it worked, too, even though we all knew the clock was set ahead.
Did you know that you can easily set your Apple Watch clock ahead up to 59 minutes to avoid being late? A good idea is to set it to a few minutes ahead, probably less than 20 minutes. This involves manually adjusting the time displayed on your Apple Watch to show a time that is ahead of the actual time. You may consider doing so for various reasons:
- To help ensure you are punctual and arrive at meetings or appointments on time.
- To help you increase the effectiveness of your time management and productivity.
- If you are always late, this can give you a psychological prompt and motivation to hurry up and leave earlier than you might otherwise.
You may worry that doing so will also change your notifications or alerts like your alarms. All of the notifications and alerts will still occur at the correct time. For example, let’s say that you move the clock 10 minutes ahead of time and you set the alarm for 6 am; the alarm will still wake you up at 6 am, not at 5:50 am. Setting a clock ahead of time will only affect the time that is shown on your Apple Watch screen.
Here is how you can do this:
- Open Settings on your watch.
- Scroll down, find Clock and tap that.
- Find the Set Watch Face Display Time Ahead section and then tap the +0 min button.
- Now you can move your clock ahead a few minutes. Simply turn your Digital Crown up or down until you find the right number of minutes.
- When you are done, click the Checkmark icon located in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
Will this work for you so that you won’t be late? Maybe. You can test it, at least. Try it for a week, and if you are not happy that your Watch Face shows the time a few minutes ahead, you can always change it. Simply follow the same steps to do so.
A similar concept is already implemented at New York’s Grand Central Terminal, aka Grand Central Station. Did you know that every train that leaves the station departs a minute later than scheduled? For example, if the timetable says 13:14, the train will leave at 13:15 to help ensure people won’t miss a train.
