How to Turn Off Split Screen on iPad
Split screen, or Split View, is part of iPad’s multitasking features. Split View allows you to work with two apps side by side, making it easier to multitask. For example, you can take notes while reading a document or browse the web while watching a video. This can improve focus or streamline your workflow. However, many people may also find it annoying. I do not use it, and sometimes I accidentally start multitasking. I do not like it because my iPad screen is not that big, and I feel splitting the screen between two apps can feel cramped.
To start or exit multitasking, including split screen or slide-over, click the three-dots button at the top of the screen. The three dots only appear if the app supports this feature.
Until recently, Apple did not allow users to turn this feature off. However, recent iPadOS versions have introduced more control options over multitasking (including split-screen and slide-over views). IPadOS 17 introduced the option to turn this feature off completely. In this article, I explain how to turn it off.
On your iPad, tap Settings and then Multitasking & Gestures.
You will see two options: Off and Split View & Slide Over. Select Off and exit Settings. After selecting the Off option, you will not see the three-dots option at the top of the screen, and thus, you can not turn on Split View.
