How to Change the Default Apple Pay Card on Mac
Many people love the convenience of Apple Pay on their iPhone and even on their Apple Watch. Even though you can’t use Apple Pay on your Mac when you’re at the grocery store, you can still use it to pay for items online.
In order to access Apple Wallet on your Mac, you must have a MacBook or Magic Keyboard with TouchID. If you don’t have this, you won’t even see Wallet & Apple Pay in System Settings (Preferences). In this article, we will tell you how you can change your default Apple Pay card in Wallet on your Mac. We’ll also tell you how you can add or remove cards from Wallet.
Add a new card to Apple Pay on Mac
If you haven’t already added the card you want to use as your default, here’s how you can add it:

macOS Ventura
- Open System Settings, then click on Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Click on Add Card to add a card.
- You may need to enter your Apple ID and password.
- Enter the card’s information. You can either do this manually or use your Mac’s camera.
macOS Monterey and earlier
- Open System Preferences, then click on Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Click on the plus sign (+) to add a card.
- You may need to enter your Apple ID and password.
- Enter the card’s information. You can either do this manually or use your Mac’s camera.
Change the default Apple Pay card on Mac

macOS Ventura
- Open System Settings, then click on Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Under the Payment Details section, you will see a listing for Default Card. Click on the double-arrows to open the menu with all of your Apple Pay cards listed. Choose a new default card from the list.
macOS Monterey and earlier
- Open System Preferences, then click on Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Near the bottom of the window, you will see Default Card with a menu. Just click on the double-arrows to open the menu with all of your Apple Pay cards listed. Choose a new default card from the list.
Remove a card from Apple Pay on Mac
If there is a card you no longer want to use for Apple Pay, you can remove it.

macOS Ventura
- Open System Settings and click on Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Select the card you want to remove. A new sub-window will open with that card’s information. Click on Remove Card in the bottom left of the sub-window.
macOS Monterey and earlier
- Open System Preferences and click on Wallet & Apple Pay.
- Select the card you want to remove, then click on the minus sign (-).
