How to Share an Apple Music Playlist with a Friend
Naturally, when you create an awesome playlist in Apple Music, you think others may want to listen to it as well. Many people use Apple Music, so there is a good chance you have friends who also use it.
Apple Music provides a way for you to share your playlists with friends, and in this article, we’ll tell you how. Before you can share a playlist in Apple Music, you’ll need to do a couple of things:
- Create a playlist.
- Set up your Apple Music Profile.
We’ve previously covered how to create a playlist in Apple Music, so we’ll start with setting up your Apple Music profile.
How to set up your Apple Music profile
With an Apple Music profile, you can share all your playlists and the music you are currently listening to. You can share this publicly or just with people you invite. You can also choose exactly which playlists you want to share. You can also follow your friends and see what they’re listening to.
On iPhone or iPad

- Open the Apple Music app and tap on Listen Now tab at the bottom of the screen (it’s in the left sidebar on iPad).
- In the upper-right part of the screen, you’ll see the account button. Tap on it.
- Tap on Set up Profile.
- Follow the onscreen instructions and create a username, add a photo if you want, etc. You can choose to invite and follow friends and share playlists. If you don’t want your music choices to be public:
- Under “Choose who can follow you,” choose People You Approve.
- You can also turn off “Allow Finding by Apple ID” so those with you in their contacts won’t see you as a recommended friend.
- When prompted to “show off your playlists,” you can just tap Done.
- When you are finished, tap Done.
On Mac
- Open the Apple Music app on your Mac.
- Click on Listen Now from the left sidebar.
- To the right of Listen Now, in the main part of the window, you should see your account button. Click on it, then click Get Started.
- When prompted to “show off your playlists,” you can just click Done.
- When you are finished, click Done.
How to share an Apple Music playlist
You can share a playlist with your friends and family so long as they have an Apple Music subscription. It works a lot like sharing anything from an Apple device; you’ll open a share sheet with options to share the playlist via AirDrop, Messages, Mail, etc.
Share from your iPhone or iPad

- Find the playlist you want to share by tapping the Library tab and then tapping Playlists (on iPad, just find the playlist from the left sidebar).
- Tap on the three dots button in the upper-right corner of your screen.
- Select Share Playlist from the menu, then choose from one of your contacts or choose a share method from the share sheet.
Share from your Mac

- Find and click on the playlist you want to share in the left sidebar under Playlists.
- To the right of the Play and Shuffle buttons, click on the three-dots button.
- Choose Share from the menu, then select your share method from the menu.
Now, as soon as your friend accepts the shared playlist, it will show up in their Apple Music Library.
