AppleCare Says This Device is Not Eligible for Additional Coverage, How to Fix
You can purchase an AppleCare plan when you buy your device or within a certain time period after buying it. If you are buying it later, sometimes you may be unable to buy an AppleCare+ plan; you may run into an error message saying something like:
- “This Device is not Eligible for Additional Coverage.”
- “It looks like your device isn’t eligible for an AppleCare agreement.”

If you see this message, you may not buy an AppleCare warranty plan. AppleCare is an optional choice that you can buy to get an extended warranty in addition to the limited warranty that Apple automatically offers when you buy a product, which is a 90-day complimentary warranty.
Unable to buy AppleCare?
There are multiple ways to buy AppleCare:
- You can buy it with your device.
- Or, within a certain number of days of your purchase, you can buy it:
- Online by visiting Apple’s AppleCare website.
- On your device.
- By calling 800-275-2273.
- At an Apple store.
If you run into issues, there are several things you can do:
Check to see if your device is eligible
Is your device eligible for an AppleCare product? In most cases, you can buy an AppleCare plan within 60 days of your device purchase. After this period, your device will no longer be eligible. You can check this online. Here is how you can check:
- Open a web browser and visit the Add Coverage website.
- Choose a product.
- Then, you can sign in with your Apple ID or enter the device’s serial number.
- If you see a screen saying “this device is not eligible,” that means that your eligibility period has passed.

- If you are still within the eligibility period, you will see a message saying “device is eligible” like this:

If you think that this “ineligibility” message is an error and your device is still within the eligibility period, you can work directly with Apple Support. They can also help you purchase AppleCare.
Check Apple System Status
If you are getting the error message saying “your device is not eligible for an AppleCare agreement,” as you can see in the screenshot below, the problem may be that Apple’s AppleCare may be down and experiencing outages. You may run into this problem if you are attempting to buy AppleCare on your device instead of online.

You can check Apple System Status. Open a web browser and visit this URL:
Look for AppleCare on Device. If the service is not running, you will see a notification. If it is running properly, you will see a green dot. If the service is having an issue, just wait for Apple to fix it (you can keep checking the status website for updates) and then try again.

Still having issues?
After ensuring that you still have time left to buy AppleCare and AppleCare servers are up and running, try purchasing it another way:
- Online by visiting Apple’s AppleCare website.
- On your device. Follow the steps, which depend on your device:
- iPhone and iPad: Settings > General > About and choose AppleCare+ Coverage Available.
- Mac: Apple menu > About This Mac > Support.
- Apple Watch: Open the Watch app and go to General > About and choose AppleCare+ Coverage Available.
- Apple Headphones: On a paired device, go to Settings > Bluetooth, then click on the (i) button for your headphones.
- By calling 800-275-2273.
- At an Apple store.
Please note that Apple may ask for proof of purchase and do an inspection. If you are purchasing on the phone, Apple may do remote diagnostics.
