Snapchat App Keeps Crashing on iPhone, How to Fix

1. Check Snapchat
The first step you should take is to check if Snapchat is having issues affecting a lot of users. If a lot of users are having the issue, it is highly likely that Snapchat already knows the problem. You can easily check this by going to the Snapchat Twitter page. Snapchat uses Twitter to indicate whether or not there’s a problem and to post their official statements regarding what they are doing about it. Snapchat is usually quick to fix bugs.
2. Update your iPhone
The first second you should take is to ensure that your iPhone has the latest version of iOS. You cab easily update your phone by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
3. Update the Snapchat app
Please ensure that you’re running the latest version of the Snapchat app on your iPhone. You may experience performance issues if you’re running an outdated version of the app. Snapchat usually releases new updates on a weekly basis. Updating is very simple, just follow the steps below:
- Open the App Store app.
- Tap the Today tab.
- Tap your circular profile icon at the top-right of the screen.
- You will see all available updates. Find Snapchat and tap Update. You can also tap the Update All button.
- If you cannot find Snapchat, this means that it is up to date.
4. Close all running apps
It appears that Snapchat may crash when you have too many apps running in the background, especially if you have an older iPhone. Here is how:
iPhone X or later:
- Go to the Home Screen.
- Swipe up from the bottom and pause in the middle of the screen. This will open the app switcher screen.
- Then close all running apps by swiping up on them.
- When you are done, tap the screen.
Other iPhone models
- Double-press the Home button.
- This will open the app switcher screen.
- Close all apps by swiping up on them.
Please note that you can close multiple apps at once by placing your fingers onto multiple app preview panels.
5. Restart your iPhone

iPhone X or later:
- Press and hold the Power button and either of the Volume buttons together until you see the power off slider.
- Drag the slider.
- Wait a few seconds for your iPhone to turn off.
- Then press and hold the Power button until the Apple logo appears.
Other iPhone models
- Press and hold the Power button, which can be on the Top or Side until the power off slider appears.
- Drag the slider.
- Wait for your device to turn off.
- Then press and hold the Power button until you see the Apple logo.
6. Remove Snapchat and then reinstall it
The last step you can do is remove the app, restart your iPhone and then reinstall it.
Delete the app
- On your iPhone, find the Snapchat app.
- Touch and hold the app.
- Tap Remove App.
- Tap Delete App.
After deleting, restart your iPhone.
Download and install again
- Open the App Store app on your ‌iPhone‌.
- Tap Today.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Purchased.
- Tap My Purchases.
- Tap “Not on this iPhone”.
- Find the Snapchat app.
- Tap the cloud download icon to download and install the app again.
